Muon $g-2$ and physics beyond the Standard Model

Abstract

For two decades, the Brookhaven $g-2$ measurement has remained a tantalizing deviation from the SM prediction and a potential indication for physics beyond the SM (BSM). Soon the new Fermilab $g-2$ measurement will publish its first data. In view of this we present an overview of the current situation and discuss general properties of BSM contributions to muon $g-2$.
